We have received a document related to the proposed development by University of Liverpool of an Egypt Branch Campus. This is particularly controversial due to the possible involvement of the Egyptian state in the murder of Italian Cambridge PhD student Giulio Regeni. A risk noted in the document, however the project appears to be going ahead.
We cannot help but wonder why this is allowed to go ahead when the risk of bringing a university into disrepute so readily leveled against academics when attempting to carry out legitimate research. When profit is to be made then anything goes?
